Check Yo Ponytail was a live, open-genre event series located at the Echoplex in Los Angeles. To celebrate the two year anniversary of Check Yo Ponytail 2, we created this mini-documentary to help better explain the different elements of the show.

Live At Check Yo Ponytail
Director / Producer / Cinematographer

We started doing this series where we would film whole songs recorded live at each Check Yo. A select few from the series were created specifically for the Pitchfork TV audience.

Spank Rock & Amanda Blank perform "Gully"
Director / Cinematographer

Spank Rock is legend. Nothing else needs to be said.

DEATH YO PONYTAIL
Director / Cinematographer

The story of Death is undoubtedly one of the most interesting and important rock and roll stories of all time. Now that the Detroit brothers are seeing their due thanks in part to the fantastic documentary, A Band Called Death, we were lucky enough to book them for a very special Halloween edition of Check Yo Ponytail.

Escort perform "Cabaret"
Director / Cinematographer

In this episode, Check Yo Ponytail teamed up with the New Myspace to host the LA debut of Brooklyn 12 piece disco orchestra, Escort.

Sasha Go Hard performs "No Time"

Juiceboxxx performs "Never Surrender Forever"
Director / Cinematographer

Juiceboxxx is hands down one of the most underrated artists of our generation. Never surrender forever, and remember to keep following those fucked up dreams.

Com Truise performs "Glawio"
Director / Cinematographer

In addition to being a very proficient synth composer, I hear he's got a wicked grill game.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra performs "Boy Witch"
Director / Cinematographer

It may have been an older cut, but after seeing Ruben's crowdsurfing guitar solo, I couldn't resist.

How To Dress Well performs "& It Was You"
Producer / Cinematographer

Tom Krell blessed us with one of the more striking performances Check Yo has hosted. Between the candlelight and the shadowy silhouettes, I wouldn't be surprised if someone got laid that night.

Diamond Rings perform "I'm Just Me"
Producer / Cinematographer

November 2012 - When Check Yo Ponytail returned to the Echoplex after a few years of hiatus, Diamond Rings was booked to play the opening set of the sold out premiere. What was then a one man show has since evolved into a full band and a whole new sense of confidence.

Trash Talk perform "Explode" & "Dig"
Producer / Cinematographer

Only my second time filming with Trash Talk. This was two years before i'd go on tour with them across America. There are few experiences more thrilling and more intense than fighting for your life at a Trash Talk show.

SPACEGHOSTPURRP performs "Suck a Dick 2012"
Producer / Cinematographer

As if a Trash Talk show weren't enough excitement for one night, try adding on a rare appearance from Spaceghostpurrp and the RVIDXR KLVN. Punk and rap were alive that night.

Light Asylum perform "A Certain Person"
Producer / Cinematographer

I specifically remember this show having these outrageous lights from Future Weapons in San Francisco. Shannon and Bruno were in rare form as well, but that's no surprise. Conrad really likes this song. I think they may have played it specifically for him too.

Chelsea Wolfe performs "Feral Love"
Producer / Cinematographer

Previously unreleased, this performance of "Feral Love" would go on to introduce us to the dark and full sound of Pain is Beauty; finally seeing a release date over a year later. Hell of a time to wait for a record so beautiful.

Blood Orange performs "Forget It"
Producer / Cinematographer

Dev Hynes plays a more radical show by himself than most full bands could ever hope.

The Drums perform "If He Likes It Let Him Do It"
Producer / Cinematographer

This is one of my favorite Drums songs. I wanted to film the whole thing just to have, and the end result became the creation of this entire series.
